Support Groups and Communities

Support groups allow peer-to-peer support where individuals going through similar experiences have the chance to share with each other and create a healing community.  By giving and receiving, everyone in the group benefits.  

Below are the support groups sponsored by St. Charles Cancer Care.  All are free of charge and led by a trained facilitator.  For more information, please contact social workers Anne Remsen, BA, or Sarah Lewis, MSW, or call (541) 706-5864.

St. Charles Cancer Care Support Groups

Men's Cancer Support Group

For men managing any type of cancer.  Meets the 1^st Thursday of every month, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the library at the St. Charles Cancer Treatment Center- Bend.

Women Surviving with Cancer Support Group

Open to women diagnosed with any type of cancer, whether in treatment or out.  Meets the 1^st Thursday of each month from 1:00-3:00 p.m., at the Ronald McDonald House, 1700 NE Purcell Blvd., Bend .

Women Surviving with Breast Cancer Support Group

Sponsored by the Sara's Project for women with breast cancer.  Meets the 1^st Wednesday of each month, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the St. Charles Cancer Treatment Center Library – Bend, except in July and August.

Community Sponsored Support Groups

Central Oregon Brain Tumor Support Group

For brain tumor patients, families and friends.  Meets 1^st Wednesday of each month from 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. in Redmond.  Contact Rubyanne Klug at (541) 350-7243.

Crooked River Ranch Cancer Support Group

Meets at St. Charles-Redmond on the 2^nd Tuesday of each month at 5:15 p.m. before the DEFEAT Cancer meeting.  Info:  Karen Jamison at (541) 548-7979 or Mary Ann Durfee, (541) 923-6371.

La Pine – Newberry Hospice Support Groups

Includes “Living with Cancer,” “Caregiver Support” and others.  Contact Pat Blue Heron, Social Worker at (541) 536-7399.

Support Our Sisters (SOS) Cancer Support Group

Meets 4^th Thursday of every month, 10:00 a.m. in various member’s homes throughout the area (Sisters, Bend, Eagle Crest). Info: Marilyn Anderson at (541) 549-1088 or Jan Baldwin at (541) 549-2015.  

Trinity Lutheran Church Women of Hope Support Group

Meets the last Tuesday of every month (except December, July and August), 2:00-4:00 p.m. at members' homes.  Info: Mary Kittelson at (541) 382-1832.
