Pediatric Care
The Pediatric unit at St. Charles Bend provides comprehensive medical care to children of all ages. We are the only designated Pediatric unit in Central Oregon, offering a highly-skilled care team that is specially trained to treat both the physical and emotional needs of children.
Newly-renovated in late 2007 with a move-in date of January 2008, the Pediatric unit includes five beds in a quiet, locked wing of the hospital. We are equipped with a state-of-the-art monitoring system and other medical technology designed specifically for children.
What's more, we offer a private treatment and exam room for children to receive necessary procedures, medicines and therapies. Our treatment room helps keep a child's patient room a safe haven, away from the needles and medical treatments.
A Safe Place for Families
At St. Charles, we believe parents deserve to know they are bringing their child to a safe and comforting environment. That's why we designed our Pediatric wing with a family's security and privacy as a top priority.
The Pediatric wing is locked at all times. Parents are allowed to stay with their children 24 hours a day. Our patient rooms offer a warm and child-friendly environment for families.
Our staff will take the time to make sure you understand your child's condition and treatments. We understand that no one knows a child better than a parent, and we consider parents to be an integral part of our care team.

The Pediatric unit at St. Charles is prepared to treat a full range of childhood illnesses and injuries.
Conditions we treat include:
- Respiratory illnesses
- Gastrointestinal illnesses
- Trauma
- Bone and nerve injuries
- Neurologic conditions
- Heart conditions
- Childhood diabetes
- Pre and Post surgical patients
In addition, we provide supplemental care for children being treated by physicians at major children's hospitals. Our care team will work with physicians from other medical centers to help children in Central Oregon stay close to home for treatments and therapies.
Pediatric Care Team at St. Charles
Our dedicated nursing staff is trained and certified in treating the specific needs of children, and our medical staff includes experienced pediatricians who bring with them the expertise gained working in some of the country's largest children's hospitals.
We offer a pediatric cardiologist from The Heart Center at St. Charles. Our support staff includes a diabetes educator, social workers and dietitians.
Special Activities for Kids
St. Charles Bend offers several activities for children to help make their stay as comfortable as possible.
An Art Cart makes regular rounds to patient rooms to provide crafts and other activities for children as part of the St. Charles Arts in the Hospital program. A group of mothers called Volunteers in Pediatrics provide age appropriate toys for children and playtime so that parents can get much needed respite. St. Charles has also received two Fun Centers from the Hollywood Video Starlight Starbright Foundation so that children can play video games and watch TV in the hospital.
