Rehabilitation for Osteoporosis

Long thought to be an inevitable part of the aging process, osteoporosis is now recognized as a treatable, preventable disease. St. Charles Rehabilitation Physical and Occupational Therapists focus on the treatment and management of osteoporosis through education and safe, appropriate training in the following areas:

  • Weight-bearing activities and strengthening activities to help promote bone formation and slow bone loss.
  • Flexibility exercises to maintain proper posture and prevent unwanted changes associated with osteoprosis.
  • Pain management associated with fractures an postural changes
  • Correct body mechanics to protect the spine and other vulnerable areas of the skeleton that are at risk for fracture.
  • Fall prevention and safety to minimize the risk for a fracture. This may involve balance training and instruction in the use of a can or walker to minimize the risk of a fall.
