Mountain View Hospital Now Provides "High Tech, Soft Touch" Mammogram

Women who undergo routine mammograms at Mountain View Hospital (MVH) now have access to the latest comfort technology available. MVH provides all women with a digital mammogram along with MammoPad®, a breast cushion that makes the exam more comfortable.

Since August 2008, MVH has been utilizing the newest technology for breast cancer detection. Digital mammography provides high quality breast images and special tools that allow the radiologist to see more detail than ever before. This advanced imaging technology helps clinicians detect breast cancer at the earliest stage possible.

In addition to offering superior mammography technology, MVH now offers a warmer, softer, and more comfortable mammogram by using the MammoPad breast cushion for every patient. MammoPad has been clinically demonstrated to reduce discomfort, associated with mammograms, for most women. Before investing in MammoPad, MVH’s Imaging Department did a study of MVH patients receiving a mammogram and found that 87% said the cushion made a difference during the exam.

MammoPad is “invisible” to X-rays and does not interfere with the image quality of the mammogram. In fact, it can allow for better images by enabling the technologist to obtain more of the chest wall in the image and ensures even compression of the breast. Also, its grip-like surface holds breast tissue in place for optimal positioning.

By offering women a softer mammogram, MVH hopes to increase the number of local women who follow recommendations for regular screenings.
