Emergency Care Services

The Emergency Department at MVH works to provide quality, compassionate care to the community. We are a Level IV Trauma Center that provides rapid response from a skilled and specially trained team of physicians, nurses and technologists. The Emergency Department features state-of-the-art medical technology and advanced treatment methods to ensure the best possible care for our patients. We are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Patients receive immediate attention from specially trained emergency physicians, nurses and technicians. Typically, the entire course of intervention and recovery – from emergency care to inpatient admission to the hospital can be handled through this department.

Our team of local emergency physicians, nurses and technicians are prepared to treat a large variety of medical conditions that require swift and effective treatment or preparation for transport.

Conditions We Treat

The Emergency Department treats about 10,000 patients a year. Some typical conditions we treat include:

  • Respiratory emergencies
  • Heart failure emergencies
  • Head injuries
  • Spinal injuries
  • Vomiting and diarrhea
  • Seizure disorders
  • Gastrointestinal emergencies
  • Abdominal pain
  • Food poisoning
  • Infections in patients with weak immune systems
  • Trauma
  • Broken or fractured bones

Care for All

The Emergency Department follows the rules set by Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTLA).  Every patient to the Emergency Department will be given a medical examination and the patient’s condition will be stabilized regardless of ability to pay.
