Additions to the family

Redmond Ob/Gyn joins the St. Charles team, welcomes two doctors

After nearly 11 years of practice in Redmond, Dr. William Barstow says that every time he is out and about, whether it be walking down the street or shopping in the grocery store, patients approach him because he has delivered their baby.

“I have some patients that I have delivered two or three babies for and in a few rare cases, four,” Barstow said. “My ties to this community are strong and I find connecting with those patients to be extremely rewarding.” According to St. Charles Redmond records, Barstow has delivered more than 1,000 babies in the region.
In spring of this year, Dr. Barstow and Redmond Ob/Gyn will join the St. Charles Health System along with two obstetricians new to the Redmond area. Drs. Eric Amend and Todd Monroe are both equally passionate about women’s health care and about becoming a part of the Redmond community.

Amend will relocate to Redmond with his wife and three young children from North Bend, Ore. He received his medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine in Toledo, Ohio where he also completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology. Amend is looking forward to providing the whole range of women’s health care in Redmond.

“I love delivering babies,” Amend said. “People growing families is holy and blessed, I feel honored to be a part of it. For me, it is one of the most compelling aspects of medicine.”
Amend loves the outdoors and is looking forward to raising his children in an area that he describes as wonderful, dynamic, beautiful and full of sunny days.

Monroe and his family will be moving to Redmond to fufill his long-term goal of providing comprehensive women’s care in a small community. He received his medical degree from University of Colorado, his family medicine training in Ventura, Calf., and most recently his obstetrics and gynecologic training in Columbia, S.C.
“I seek to provide women’s health care in a holistic and compassionate manner,” Monroe said. “I enjoy helping patients find solutions and meeting their often complex needs. Obstetrical care is particularly gratifying for it provides the opportunity to share the special and unique stages of a family.”

Monroe’s family is also excited about the move and his three children look forward to participating in local swimming competitions.

With the addition of two more doctors to the area, Barstow says the practice will be able to offer new services, get patients in for care in less time and hopefully deliver even more Redmond and Prineville babies closer to home. That’s an important goal for Patrick Varga, CEO of St. Charles Redmond as well.

“By partnering with Drs. Barstow, Amend and Monroe, St. Charles is continuing its dedication to providing important health care services to the Redmond community,” Varga said. “We’re excited to add Redmond Ob/Gyn to the list of outpatient clinics we already support.”
