Family Birthing Centers

When Baby Arrives

To make sure you're comfortable taking care of your newborn, our Family Birthing Centers at St. Charles Bend and Madras provide education and support services after your baby arrives and before you go home.

Lactation Services

We encourage mothers to breastfeed their babies for the first year of life. Our lactation consultants are available to assist you with breastfeeding during your hospital stay. They'll check with you regularly to evaluate feedings and help ease any concerns you may have.

After you’re home, we continue providing breastfeeding support through a designated phone line available to all women in Central Oregon. You may call for help for as long as you're breastfeeding: 541-382-4321, ext. 5670.

Postpartum Care

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all breastfed infants be weighed and evaluated for jaundice no later than five days after birth. If your baby is at risk, an appointment will be scheduled for you before you leave the hospital.

Recognizing that as many as one in three new mothers will experience postpartum depression to some extent, we offer compassionate evaluations through Behavioral Health Services. Call 541-322-2768 for information or assistance.
