FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 2, 2017
BEND, Ore. - Heaven Can Wait, an 18-year tradition in Central Oregon and one of the largest 5K races in the region, will be held on Sunday, June 4, in Bend’s Drake Park.
The event raises money for Sara’s Project, a fund of St. Charles Foundation that provides education, early detection and support services to ease the challenges of breast cancer for people in Central and Eastern Oregon.
Celebrated each year on National Cancer Survivors Day, Heaven Can Wait draws thousands of participants in honor of their own cancer survivorship or the cancer journey of a loved one.
Since the inaugural race in 2000, Heaven Can Wait has raised more than $1.3 million for Sara’s Project. All proceeds stay in the community and directly benefit programs and services for those facing breast cancer in the region.
Registration for Heaven Can Wait is still available at the FootZone in downtown Bend the day before the race for $35, and on race day in Drake Park for $40.
Heaven Can Wait 5K is looking for volunteers on race day for various jobs, including set-up, food tent, course marshals and water station. Visit heavencanwait.org to view available volunteer positions and sign up.
