At St. Charles Center for Women’s Health, our midwives are Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs), nurse practitioners who specialize in women’s health. They are able to provide full spectrum women’s health care at all stages of life from adolescence through menopause, including obstetric care. While historically midwifery care has been recognized as the art of supporting women during childbirth, our CNMs also provide comprehensive women’s health care. This includes well woman/annual exams, contraception, STI testing/treatment, gynecologic visits and menopausal care in addition to care during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. CNMs prescribe medications, order labs/imaging, attend births in the hospital and also assist with cesarean sections.
